The Preliminary Examination serves as the screening stage. It consists of two papers:
- General Studies Paper I
- General Studies Paper II (CSAT)

Candidates who qualify for the Preliminary stage appear for the UPSC Mains Examination, which consists of nine papers, including Essay, General Studies papers, optional subject papers, and qualifying language papers.
The Mains cut-off represents the minimum marks required to qualify for the Personality Test (Interview).

- Marks obtained in the Mains Examination
- Marks obtained in the Personality Test (Interview)
