Official UPSC Annual Calendar 2027
UPSC CSE 2027 Application and Examination Dates

Important OTR Update
Is UPSC OTR Still Valid for the 2027 Application?
The old UPSC One Time Registration module is no longer applicable for new examination applications. UPSC requires applicants to create an account and upload their details afresh on the new portal.
Account Creation
Register with an active email address and mobile number, verify both through OTP and create a password.
Universal Registration
Complete the Identity Profile, Aadhaar or Photo ID Profile and Matriculation Board Profile, then lock the details to generate the Universal Registration Number.
Common Application Form
Complete the reusable personal, category, address, educational, employment, achievement, previous-examination, photograph and signature profiles.
Examination Application
When CSE 2027 becomes active, select the examination, lock the Common Application Form for that examination, fill the exam-specific fields, choose a centre and complete payment where applicable.
What Is URN?
URN means Universal Registration Number. It is generated after Universal Registration and becomes part of the candidate’s permanent portal record for future UPSC applications.
- Preserve the registered email address and mobile number
- Preserve the account password and URN
- Use only one account for one email address and mobile number
- Verify all identity and Class 10 details before locking
- Do not assume that an old OTR profile will migrate automatically
Can You Prepare the Registration Before January 2027?
Yes. The first three parts—Account Creation, Universal Registration and the Common Application Form—are common to examinations and can be completed before the CSE 2027 notification. The examination-specific application can be submitted only during the notified window.

Do Not Depend on a Future Edit Facility
UPSC CSE 2027 Correction Window and Form-Editing Rules
As of 23 June 2026, UPSC has announced the CSE 2027 application dates through the annual calendar, but the detailed 2027 notification has not yet been issued. Therefore, no separate CSE 2027 correction-window dates or list of editable fields has been officially announced.
What You Can Do Before Locking
- Edit the Universal Registration profiles before the URN is generated
- Review Common Application Form modules before locking them for CSE 2027
- Correct spelling, identity, category, educational and address details before submission
- Replace non-compliant photographs or signatures before final locking
- Review the examination centre and exam-specific responses before final submission
What Becomes Risky After Locking
- The CAF locked for a particular examination cannot presently be edited for that examination
- The portal FAQ says Aadhaar, Class 10 and candidate-identity profiles cannot be unlocked after final submission
- A one-time URN-profile update, where available, applies only to applications submitted after the update
- Changes to the URN do not alter an application already submitted
- Any 2027 correction facility must be confirmed only from the CSE 2027 notification or a later UPSC notice
Final Review Before Submission

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs About the UPSC Online Application 2027
When will the UPSC CSE 2027 application form open?
The UPSC Annual Calendar 2027 schedules the Civil Services Preliminary Examination notification and application opening for 13 January 2027.
What is the last date to apply for UPSC CSE 2027?
The scheduled last date is 2 February 2027. UPSC can revise calendar dates, so candidates should verify the detailed 2027 notification when it is released.
Which is the official UPSC application website?
The official application portal is https://upsconline.nic.in. The main Commission website, https://www.upsc.gov.in, publishes the calendar, notification and official examination updates.
Is the old UPSC OTR valid for the 2027 application?
No. UPSC has stated that the old One Time Registration module is not applicable for new applications. Candidates must create an account and complete Universal Registration and the Common Application Form afresh on the new portal.
What is the difference between OTR and URN?
OTR refers to the old One Time Registration system. Under the new portal, candidates complete Universal Registration and receive a Universal Registration Number, or URN, which becomes part of their permanent application record.
Can I complete Universal Registration before the CSE 2027 notification?
Yes. Account Creation, Universal Registration and the Common Application Form are common modules that can be completed before a particular examination opens. The CSE 2027 examination-specific form can be submitted only during the notified application period.
Is Aadhaar compulsory for UPSC registration?
The current instructions allow Aadhaar or an alternative valid Photo ID. UPSC advises the use of Aadhaar for easier verification, but candidates should follow the choices and requirements displayed in the current portal and the 2027 notification.
What are the photograph requirements?
The current portal requires a recent colour JPG photograph named photo, between 20 KB and 200 KB, with a plain white background and at least 75 per cent face coverage. The candidate should face the camera directly with both ears and open eyes visible.
Is a live photograph mandatory?
Yes. The current portal requires a live photograph captured through the device camera or through a mobile device using the QR-code option. It is matched with the uploaded passport-size photograph.
Why does UPSC require three signatures?
The current new-portal instructions require the candidate to sign three times vertically on plain white paper using black ink and upload all three signatures in one JPG image. Candidates must follow the specified size and dimensions.
Will UPSC provide a correction window for CSE 2027?
No separate CSE 2027 correction-window dates have been announced as of 23 June 2026. The current portal instructions say that data locked for a particular examination cannot be edited for that examination. Follow the CSE 2027 notification and any later official correction notice.
Can I edit my URN profile after generating it?
The current general instructions mention a one-time URN-profile update facility after generation, but the change applies only to applications submitted after the update and does not modify applications already submitted. Some core profiles are also subject to stricter final-submission rules.
What is the UPSC CSE 2027 application fee?
The final CSE 2027 fee and exemption rules will be stated in the official notification scheduled for 13 January 2027. Do not assume that a previous year’s fee or payment method will automatically apply.
How do I know that my application is successfully submitted?
After successful completion and applicable payment, the portal should generate a confirmation page or PDF and show the application under My Applications. Download and preserve the application and payment acknowledgement.
Can I apply after the deadline if the portal was slow?
UPSC normally accepts applications only within the period stated in the notification. Server congestion near the deadline is not a safe reason to postpone submission. Apply well before 2 February 2027.
Where can I get official help for a portal problem?
The current UPSC helpdesk numbers displayed on the official website are 011-24041001 and 011-40303444. For portal correspondence, the UPSC FAQ also lists [email protected] and asks candidates to provide the examination name, applicant name, father’s name, date of birth and URN.
