UPSC has postponed the IAS/IPS Prelims Exam 2020 due to COVID19 lockdown situation prevailing in the country. The fresh dates will be announced after May 20, 2020.
Providing a huge relief to lakhs of aspirants troubled by the COVID19 lockdown, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has deferred the Civil Services Preliminary Exam 2020 scheduled to be held on 31-05-2020.
The decision on the fresh date of the exam will be made available by UPSC on 20-05-2020 (after assessing the condition).
More time for IAS aspirants to prepare well
About 10 lakh candidates had applied for the IAS/IPS Exam 2020. The last date for the application was March 03, 2020, and the originally scheduled exam date was May 31, 2020.
Minister Jitendra Singh had hinted multiple times before that the UPSC CSE Prelims 2020 will be postponed. However, the official confirmation from UPSC came only today (May 04, 2020)
Though the new date of the exam is not known now, it is very clear that aspirants will get more time to prepare, practise, and revise their topics well.
UPSC Exams and COVID19
The fresh date will depend on the extent of COVID19 situation in the country.
As of now, India is divided into Red, Orange, and Green Zones. As per the latest list of the Center, out of the 733 districts in the country, 130 are classified as red zones, 284 as orange zones and 319 as green zones.
The situation may change by May 20, and the Government will re-classify these zones.
UPSC will ensure at least 30-day notice before the fresh exams
UPSC has assured all candidates that when dates are decided for the postponed exams, it will be ensured that the candidates are given a notice of at least 30 days.
Probable Fresh Date of UPSC CSE Prelims 2020
The new date can be any date after June 20, 2020.
If COVID situation worsens in India, the exam may get postponed to July end or even August.
There is nothing unusual if the Preliminary Exam happens in August because the date of IAS/IPS Prelims was on August during 2015-2016.
Analysing the previous history of UPSC exams, where a gap of about 30-days was given between admit-card-release and the exam date, the exam may likely be rescheduled on July or August 2020.
Admit Card (Hall-Ticket) for UPSC CSE 2020
UPSC is yet to issue admit cards for Prelims 2020 (as the exam date is not finalised).
Hopefully, the decision to release e-admit card will be taken on May 20, 2020.
