The preliminary examination of the UPSC CSE is the first stage of the selection process.

It is a multiple-choice objective test that serves as a screening test for the main examination.

The preliminary examination of UPSC CSE 2023 will be held on May 28, 2023.

The preliminary examination consists of two papers:

1. Paper I: General Studies Paper I (GS-I) – This paper tests the candidate’s general awareness of subjects such as current events, history, geography, Indian Polity, environment, technology, and economics.
