DoPT Clarifies Fresh Attempts and Age Relaxation in UPSC Civil Services Examination

Update: Clarification on fresh attempts and age relaxation in Civil Services Examination :  With reference to the decision of the Competent Authority conveyed earlier, the existing position in respect of number of attempts and  maximum age limits for various categories of candidates and the changes as approved in number of attempts & age-limits consequent to providing two additional attempts would be as under:-
Number of Attempts for IAS Exam - ClearIAS

Number of attempts and age limit for UPSC IAS exam

  • For a general category candidate, the maximum age limit permissible to write UPSC prelims would be 32 years. Number of attempts permissible would be 6.
  • For an OBC candidate, the maximum age limit permissible to write UPSC prelims would be 35 years. Number of attempts permissible would be 9.
  • For an SC/ST candidate, the maximum age limit permissible to write UPSC prelims would be 37 years. Number of attempts permissible would be unlimited within that age-limit.
  • For a PH candidate belonging to general category, the maximum age limit permissible would be 42 years. That would be 45 for a PH candidate in OBC and 47 for a PH candidate in SC/ST. The number of attempts permitted would be 9 for a PH candidate in general categorty and OBC while it is unlimited for SC/ST.

    I will be in final year of bba distance education & exam will be conducted in December 2019 , results 2 months later & im 35 years old (obc category) by that time, am I eligible for ias exams 2019. plz clarify me

    My date of birth 13/05/1991 , completed my degree in 2017 , my son is just 2 month old now ,so I am planning to write in2021, am I eligible to write in 2021 please let me know
