On the occasion of International Clouded Leopard Day (August 4), India reaffirmed its commitment to conserving one of Asia’s most mysterious and least-studied wild cats through the launch of the Clouded Leopard Conservation Action Plan (CAP).
Released during the 91st Standing Committee meeting of the National Board for Wildlife (SCNBWL) in July 2026 at Coimbatore, the Action Plan represents India’s first comprehensive national strategy dedicated exclusively to the conservation of the Clouded Leopard.
Developed under the Government of India-Global Environment Facility (GEF)-United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) initiative, the CAP seeks to protect the species through scientific monitoring, habitat restoration, landscape connectivity, anti-poaching measures, and community participation.
