No wonder, Kanishak Kataria, secured All India Rank 1 by scoring 55.36 per cent marks. He scored 1121 out of 2025.
Kanishak’s Marks Reveal Tough Standards in UPSC Civil Services Exam
In general, UPSC Civil Services Exam (CSE) is a low scoring exam – and is widely considered as one of the toughest exams to crack.
This is because while the vacancies are only less than 1000, the number of applicants is around 10,00,000.
Last year, a general category candidate just needed 49% marks to be in the final rank list.

UPSC Topper 2018 Marks
Kanishak Kataria scored 942 marks in the Main Examination (written) out of 1750, securing a percentage of 53.8. He secured 65 per cent marks in UPSC Interview when he scored 179 out of 275. His total score – Mains plus Interview – is 1121 out of 2025 (55.36 per cent).
